Critical thinking

We apply strong-sense critical thinking, where critical thinking skills are used to evaluate all beliefs and claims--those we support and those we don't--with equal vigor. 

Weak-sense critical thinking is focused on defending a position without considering its merits relative to other positions. 

When we examine our own positions with strong-sense critical thinking, we either find fault with them or our belief in them is reinforced.  We will vigorously defend them but also abandon them in a heartbeat when they're demonstrated to be deficient or when a better position is presented (which often happens when discussing solutions to technical problems!).
